Join us for an immersive, hands-on Plein Air Painting & Drawing Workshop in the heart of Corktown, Detroit. Hosted by Dive Studios, home to a community of 15 working artists, this series takes studio practice outdoors to capture the light, architecture, and dynamic energy of the surrounding neighborhood.

Designed for beginners and intermediate artists alike, this workshop focuses on the art of painting and drawing directly from life in the open air. Learn how to simplify complex outdoor scenes, work with changing natural light, and translate the urban landscape onto paper or canvas.

What You Will Learn

• Plein Air Fundamentals: Setting up comfortably outdoors, selecting a subject, and establishing a strong composition quickly.

• Light & Color Theory: Understanding natural light, color temperature, and value (light vs. dark) to create realistic atmospheric depth.

• Materials & Efficiency: Working effectively with your chosen medium (oil, acrylic, watercolor, or drawing media) using streamlined field kits and proper tool maintenance outdoors.

• Studio & Field Practice: Developing a sustainable sketching and painting routine within a supportive community of fellow artists.

Option 2: Tuition + Complete Field Starter Kit

$275 Full 4-week instruction plus a complete outdoor kit to keep, including lightweight aluminum field easel, canvas panels, paint set, brushes, palette, and field supplies.
