Drawing Fundamentals: A 4-Week Workshop

Whether you're totally new to drawing or just want to sharpen your skills, this four-week workshop is a great place to start. We’ll cover essential drawing techniques like line, shading, proportion, perspective, and composition - all in a relaxed, supportive environment where you can build confidence and have fun with the process.

Classes meet on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, giving you 2.5 hours each week to learn, practice, and get personalized feedback.

You’ll work with a variety of materials like graphite, charcoal, conte - I will supply the basics, just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore.

Included in the workshop:

  • Basic drawing supplies (paper, pencils, charcoal, etc.)

  • A friendly, small-group setting with individual guidance

We’ll meet once a week for 2.5 hours, giving you plenty of time to learn the basics, from mixing colors and using mediums to building a composition and developing your own painting style. You’ll get personal feedback, plenty of practice, and walk away with a finished piece by the end of the course.

Included in the workshop:

  • 10 hours of in-person instruction

  • A canvas to work on

  • Mediums and a selection of primary oil paints

  • A laid-back, small group environment where you can ask questions and get individual help

No experience necessary — just bring your curiosity (and maybe an apron). All levels are welcome!

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, this is a relaxed space to sharpen your skills, explore gesture and anatomy, and enjoy drawing from a live model.

Dates: Sundays – September 7, 14, 21, 28
Time: 1:00 PM – 3:30 PM (2.5-hour session)
Location: 1927 Rosa Parks Blvd, Detroit (DIVE Studios- Corktown)
Drop-in: $15 per session
Monthly pass (all 4 sessions): $50
Live Model: Paid & tipped – please bring cash if you'd like to tip!

Each session will feature a professional nude model, a mix of quick gesture poses and longer studies, and a supportive environment for artists of all levels. Bring your own materials – limited chairs and easels available (or feel free to bring your own setup).

Spots are limited to ensure a comfortable drawing environment.
